Regular classes were cancelled at Adair County Elementary School on Friday, October 5th. Instead of studying math, reading and science, students learned about CPR, how the heart works and why sleeping nine hours a night is important. These lessons were all part of the annual Health and Fitness Day, a unique event that provides an opportunity for all ACES students to participate in a day full of health and fitness promotion, education and exploration.
Some of the activities included riding a “blender bike” to make a fruit smoothie, physical education games, discussing the effects of drugs on health and learning why it is important to take care of your teeth.
Nearly 60 volunteers from the community, Lindsey Wilson College and Adair County High School visited the school to share health, fitness, and nutrition activities with students. The event is sponsored by The Family Resource Center, ACES Physical Education Department and Leadership Day coordinators.
